It has been about a week since I caught
a bunch of fish from the Walnut River. I decided to put my new bluegill in my
big tank. There are two red-finned shiner-minnows that I put in the tank right
away. But they are not that smart and they seemed to have adjusted to their new
home just fine.
There is several mosquito fish which I
may end up letting go. They are boring pets. I am keeping them in a small tank
on the floor of my bedroom.
The Bluegill is the most interesting of
the new fish. He seems smart. He looked at all the decorations in the tank when
I put him in there. The minnows paid no attention to the scenery of the tank.
The bluegill took a while to get used to being in a tank but now he eats the
food I put in for him. He is like a lot of simple minded fish. He likes food
and as long as he gets it, he isn’t afraid of me. The tank also leaves him eye
level with me. He was more afraid of me when I kept him in a small tank on the
floor. I’ve noticed that he has gotten more of his orange color since he is
more at home in the new tank. Before, in the small tank on the floor, his
colors faded.
The behaviors of these fish are very
interesting. I’ve really enjoyed observing them and learning how they like to
do things.
